  • Disinfect and clean “high-touch” surfaces and items every day: This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks, and electronics.
  • Clean the area or item with soap and water if it is dirty. After that, use a household disinfectant.
    • Be sure to follow the instructions on the label of the product. Many products recommend keeping the surface wet for several minutes to kill germs. We recommend wearing gloves, making sure you have good air flow, and moreover wiping or rinsing off the product after use.
    • Most household disinfectants should be effective, furthermore you can find a list of EPA-registered disinfectants here.
    • To clean electronics, first, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for all cleaning and disinfection products. Secondly. use alcohol-based wipes or spray containing most importantly 70% alcohol.
  • Using a separate bedroom and bathroom:
  • Clean around the sick person only when the area is soiled. This will help limit your contact with the sick person.
    • If they feel up to it, the person who is sick can clean their own space. Give the person who is sick paper towels, cleaners, and EPA-registered disinfectants for personal cleaning.
  • Sharing a bathroom: After each use, the person who is sick should clean and then disinfect the bathroom. If this is not possible, then wait as long as possible to clean and use the bathroom, above all wear a mask.
